Jan Haaken, Producer

Jan Haaken

Haaken is professor of psychology at Portland State University, a cultural and clinical psychologist, and a documentary filmmaker. She co-produced and co-directed Diamonds, Guns and Rice (documentary video, 47 minutes), screened at the Cascadia African International Film Festival 2002 and distributed with Speaking Out: Women, War, and the Global Economy (2005). Haaken also wrote and co-directed Queens of Heart: Community Therapists in Drag (documentary video, 72 minutes, 2007), screened at the Best of the Northwest Film Festival, 2006. Haaken has published extensively on psychology and cultural issues, race and gender dynamics, and film and video activism.


Abdul Fofanah, co-Director

Abdul Fofanah

Fofanah is a Sierra Leonean American who loves hip-hop and serves as a guide, bridging cultural and geographical divides. He works as a refugee youth coordinator for Lutheran Community Services in Portland, OR, and as a volunteer for Portland Community Media.


Caleb Heymann, co-Director

Caleb Heymann

Heymann co-produced and co-directed Diamonds,Guns and Rice (documentary video, 47 minutes), screened at the Cascadia African International Film Festival 2002 and distributed with Speaking Out: Women, War, and the Global Economy (2005). Heymann also was cinematographer and assistant director, Queens of Heart: Community Therapists in Drag (documentary video, 72 minutes, 2007), screened at the Best of the Northwest Film Festival, 2006. Heymann has shot and edited numerous short films, music videos and live events both on HD and SD video and on super 16mm. He graduated from the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance (AFDA) with a BFA in Motion Picture Production in March, 2007.
